When Was The Internet First Created The origin of the Internet is a debated issue among many as even today it is considered a relatively new technology. The answer to this question can be summed up into two separate parts, when was the Internet first created and when did it first become available to the public. The Internet was first created in 1969 by the US Department of Defense as an alternate means of communication in the event of a nuclear attack. If a communication site was destroyed routers would be used to direct traffic around the network through other available routes. This system was known as ARPAnet which created the TCP/IP communications standard defining the transfer of data on the Internet today. In essence the first true source of the Internet was a means of military defense by the US government. The World Wide Web (WWW) however was invented much later by Englishman Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. The World Wide Web is defined as an information system that links data from several internet servers under one set of protocols called HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol). Delphi was the first actual commercial company to offer online service to its customers in July 0f 1992. AOL, Prodigy, and CompuServe all came online in 1995 when it began its first true surge of popularity and availability. If you first remember using the Internet in the mid 90’s you are more or less correct. So to sum it up the Internet was invented in 1969 and first made available to the public in 1992.
